07230109/Nouveau Cameo Pendant
Measuring approximately 2.5" in length and a bit more than 1.75" at the widest point, this dimensional pendant features a maiden's face and bust atop a plaque that is hand carved, believed to be European Bakelite and contains the original bail that is screwed into place. The bust appears applied to the to the plaque, i.e., not carved from one piece, and is potentially made from very early plastic although no mold lines are apparent. Due to varnish and/or shellac, surface testing is impossible however the carving marks are indicative signs of a phenolic composition. A magnificent piece that will delight vintage cameo lovers, the pendant is in extremely good condition and would suspend wonderfully from ribbon or a neck chain.
